Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds Rock An awesome underrated band with a charismatic intelligent singer. Nick Cave possesses an awesome voice sometimes reminescent of Leonard Cohen and writes amazing lyrics. Their music is pretty diverse with songs influenced by blues, gospel, punk and traditional ballad. If you like Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen this might just be your cup of tea. Suggested starting album - Let Love In

[glow=red,2,300]King's X[/glow]...very awesome band, but unfairly overlooked. Some of their stuff is obviously influenced by the Beatles...they rock without being too loud or annoying. Some songs to check out: Dogman, It's Love, Moanjam

If you wanna change of pace from everyday music, i recommend any music by The Blue Man Group. A hybrid of dance and rock, it is mostly percussion based, but also features guitars. Their visual performance art isn't needed to enjoy their music, it stands on it's own. Features many different instruments, both exotic and homemade instruments, including sets of tubes, gongs, drums, thin air poles, cymbolums, and soooo many more. Songs to check out include: Time to Start, Sing Along, and their cover of I Feel Love.

My only exposure to the Blue Man Group is their song from the 2001(?) Grammys. They did percussion for Moby's "Natural Blues", with Moby on vocals and guitar and Jill Scott filling in on the female vocals. It was awesome. I downloaded it, on Napster if I'm not mistaken (maybe Audio Galaxy).
Ahh, defunct P2Ps.

-Band: Against Me! Style: Country-Punk Why: Just to listen to how the two styles fuse perfectly. -Band: Cocksparrer Style: Old School Oi Why: The roots of Pop-Punk. Any new school punk kids can see where their music really came from. -Band: Dropkick Murphys Style: Celtic Punk Why: Just a tremedously talented band. They do a lot of old Irish folk song covers and speed them up in a way only Dropkick can. I'm bored of this now

Just downloaded Alright Guy by counrty artist Gary Allen (for my country band project - JAY'S GONE COUNTRY!). Great song, made even greater by the fact that the original was a one-hit-wonder of sorts by an alternative, and kinda folksy, artist named Todd Snider back in the mid-nineties. His only other single was the hidden track on his album called "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues," a Bob Dylanesque parody of a grunge band that makes it big by not playing anything at all, and releasing an album that is pure silence. It's great.

Artist: Robert Earl Keen (Jr., I think...)
Album: No. 2 Live Dinner
Category: Country. Redneck. You choose.
Why: First off, the album is a good introduction to Mr. Keen's work. Secondly, nobody can beat the opening line of "Mom got drunk and Dad got drunk/ at our Christmas party".

O.A.R. (...of a revolution.) Island-vibe roots rock (what they've dubbed their mix of rock, reggae, and a couple other musical styles) O.A.R. (not "ore") often gets written off as either a frat band or a second-rate Dave Matthews Band, but they've really got some chops and, though both bands feature a saxamophone and have kinda similar sounds, they really aren't a DMB clone or anything; they have a style all their own. Best enjoyed live -- you may have heard their song "Hey Girl" played on pop stations a few times earlier in the year and either liked it or dismissed it; but take my advice and get their double live album, "Any Time Now," for a far superior version of "Hey Girl" plus most of their other hits, like "Crazy Game of Poker" and "Night Shift," not to mention a truly sick "Get Away." Very good, uplifting music.

Skid Row's 1991 album, "Slave to the Grind."
What, does nobody like heavy metal anymore? It's got terrific energy, and Sebastian Bach can scream with the best of them. It's badass music!

I agree wholeheartedly. This album kicks serious buttox! In fact, I recommend any of Skid Row's albums, except for their new one "Thickskin", but only b/c i've heard just one song from that album

Another recommendation...
The Verve Pipe: Platinum & Gold Collection
I dunno, I'm kind of late on the song "The Freshmen", but I wasn't old enough to appreciate it back in 97... I listened to Southern gospel (*sarcastically* thanks, mom) and classic rock (*unsarcastically* thanks, dad).

Ok, here are some CDs i recommend:
-LOVE IT TO DEATH (Alice Cooper): Alice Cooper's breakthrough album. Features their first hit "I'm Eighteen". Pure rock, pure kick buttocks fun
-DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME (Joey Ramone): The king of punk's legacy. Very cool punk from a very cool artist
-MUSIC FOR PEOPLE (Vast): This is one of the most unique bands i've heard in recent years. Gothic rock mixed with metal and classical music.
-NOLA (Down): A heavy metal supergroup featuring members of Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Eyehategod, and Crowbar. This is powerful music.
