Hayseed Dixie A novelty band (similar to Richard Cheese) that does bluegrass/country covers of classic rock. They have three albums out thus far; one with all AC/DC covers (their first album, hence their name), one with all Kiss covers, and another with covers of various songs (including those by Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, and Spinal Tap). As soon as I get enough money, I am buying one of these albums .

Name: Dispatch Album: Bang Bang Why they're awesome: Dude, they're from Boston. Kidding. They're a reggae-inflected sort of jam band--not sure quite how to classify them. Very mellow, though. Music to chill to. Listen to "The General," their biggest hit, and then the rest of the record. Chances are if you like "The General" you'll like the rest.
Name: The Decembrists Album: Castaways and Cutouts Why they're awesome: It's like sea shanties as learned on land, with catchiness to spare. It's an interesting sound. "July! July!" should stick in your head for weeks.
Name: The Undertones Album: The Undertones Why they rock: Really just for "Teenage Kicks" which will also stick in your head for weeks.

the dan band "the dan band live" covers of pop music from the '80s, '90s, and today!
the dan band is the wedding band that adds profanity to the hits in "old school" and performs rather creepily at a girl's bat mitzvah in "starsky and hutch."
their album is FANTASTIC. loads of energy, dan finnerty has a great voice, and it's amazing how a lot of hits of today and yesterday sound so much cooler with random profanity sprinkled in.
track 2, which is a combo of "gloria" and "mickey" is to this album as "common people" is to william shatner's "has been," which is to say ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.

OK, now this post has been moved from the Book Recommendation Thread to it's rightful home...
I got The Bravery for my b-day. If you like The Killers, you'll like The Bravery. Despite the fact that these two bands apparently don't get along together very well.

I've mentioned it before on this forum, but Alice Cooper's latest album, Dirty Diamonds, is a really good listen. Some of the songs on this album rank among his best stuff from his 70s heyday. And I'm not just saying that cause cause I'm a fan.

Time to revive this thing.
Iron & Wine are great, if you're into really mellow acoustic indie rock. Of course everyone knows "Such Great Heights," thanks to the Garden State soundtrack and that new M&Ms commercial. But their EP "Woman King" is the best. "Jezebel" and "Evening on the Ground (Lilith's Song)" are the two best songs on the EP.
The Decemberists are also really insanely good. "Picaresque" and "Castaways and Cutouts" are great albums.

Hmmm...I had been meaning to post here before, but didn't, for some reason. Anyway, MC Lars is really worth listening to. The "Post-Punk Laptop" rapper has an album coming out this month. If you're a Beastie Boys fan, give him a listen. You guys should also check out Twelve34. Indie powerpop at its best.
