Looks like when it rains, it pours, as far as my cd purchasing habits go. I did a little discount sniffing today without any intentions to buy, and came across a "2 for $12" shelf. Despite worrying about how much cash I have, I ended up buying Billy Idol's Rebel Yell and Duran Duran's s/t album (aka the Wedding Album).

Dear Lord, Billy Idol and Duran Duran... Anyway.
I'm still lobbying to get Green Day's American Idiot. Does that still count?

The storm continues in OogieBoogieLand as Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell makes it's way to the fold.
I had the choice narrowed down to H+H and Nirvana's Nevermind. It was bad inner conflict for a minute, but I ultimately realized I like Black Sabbath and Dio more than I like Nirvana.

I just bought "Live from the Women's Club" by the Jayhawks (incidentally, it was recorded about a block from my apartment), "Dignity and Shame" by Crooked Fingers, and the EP "Illegal Tender" by Louis XIV. The last band played a show here last Wednesday with the Hot Hot Heat. I had every intention of going, but when I got home I didn't feel like leaving. I'm really kicking myself now that I didn't go.
edited to add--I'm kicking myself even more after I found out that Louix XIV was formed out of the ashes Convoy, a band I saw about 3 years ago and really enjoyed

Yesterday I got Set Yourself on Fire by Stars. A lot of songs reminds me of The Postal Service.

and a 20th Century Masters compilation of Kiss's non-makeup era Oh dear Lord. KISS, non-makeup? Do you WANT to commit musical suicide? Just thought I'd ask. ;D It's not that bad, but it's DEFINITELY not that good either. Oh, and as for new music... The Black Crowes' Greatest Hits: A Work in Progress. I likee.

Oh dear Lord. KISS, non-makeup? Do you WANT to commit musical suicide? The music is fairly good, by hair/pop metal standards. But it's definitely not at par with Kiss' old stuff in any way, shape or form. I am a big fan of Kiss, and I wanted to have a sample of their non-makeup stuff without shelling out tons of money for several weak albums. Plus this compilation is 10 bucks for 12 tracks, which is a good price, even for the best of the worst.

I just bought "The Fuses Refuse to Burn" by The Olympic Hopefuls. They're a local band that's been getting a lot of buzz (evidently they had a song play on the OC back in January). Also, I work with someone who's friends with their manager. I saw them on Saturday opening for The Honeydogs (another local band). I liked them better than The Honeydogs.

I had my mother-in-law buy me Interpol's Antics because she's sweet and she insisted on buying me something when we went to Best Buy. God, I love my in-laws. How many men do you know say that? Well I just did, and I meant it.
Oh, and Interpol is pretty sweet, too. Their video for "Evil" with the creepy puppet and the traffic accident got me hooked.

I definitely agree with you there... changing the lead singer can be like removing a vital organ. Sometimes the transplant works, but even then the result is still different. And then, sometimes the patient dies. Genesis is a great example of what can happen... I love the Peter Gabriel era, still liked the Phil Collins-fronted version... but, don't get me started by bringing up Ray Wilson as their lead singer! And then there's Journey... nothing like just grabbing a replacement that sounds like Steve Perry, and then trying to pawn it off as the band that brought you such classics as "Separate Ways".
