Ok, I figured it would be best to get this thread up a few weeks in advance this time around, rather than last year, when I foisted it upon the forum at the last minute. It'll give those of you who want to participate time to steel yourselves and to think up how best to explain to family and friends why you're going to disappear for a whole month. Plus, it'll give me a chance to relieve some of the boredom I'm feeling right now. Wow, I'm already in a writerly mood...'tis the season, I guess. Ok, exposition for those of you not in the know: Every November is the National Novel Writing Month; the objective is to write a 50,000 word (minimum) novella by the end of the month. More information at www.nanowrimo.orgAs a lark, I started rereading the NaNo thread from last year, and I immediately relived all the excitement, frustration, and ultimately satisfaction that I felt last November. All of which was made even better by the fact that Justin and Sue were fighting the good fight with me. So what say ye? Who will take up the call and...stuff? If it helps, I believe Neil Gaiman is going to be involved this year. I think he's gonna write an article for the site or something; I don't know the exact details.

I would honestly love to, but between work, class and a one week vacation, there's just going to be no time. Mebbe next year.

At this point, I don't think I'm going to be able to do NaNoWriMo this year. However, before you think I'm a total slacker coward, the reason I might not have time is that a literary agent is interested in two of my writing projects...a finished manuscript and a work-in-progress which is coincidentally my '06 WriMo effort. It's probable that I'll be so busy editing and adding to '06 that I won't be able to participate in '07!

Back in the early spring, I actually thought I'd give it a shot this year. I had finished Rob Sheffield's "Love is a Mix Tape", and it inspired me to pull together a very rough outline for a novel. Then Ducklet #2 threw a wrench in the plans. So, I can either isolate myself for the entire month and write my 50k words, or I can make sure that I'm there for Lissa during the final month of pregnancy. Guess which one I better choose... ;D

It's funny, I've been jotting down random things that I think would make a good story lately. All the more reason to buckle down and NaNoWriMo it!
OogieBoogie, methinks I shall join you in this quest to... write. ;D

Yeah, since I'll be very disappointed in you if I don't see a novel in 6 weeks. Very disappointed. And seeing how quickly I was able to respond to this thread should indicate just how easy it'll be for me to write 50,000 words in November

You know, I really want to do this. I said last year that I'd try to do it this year, and I'm not the sort of quitter to let a lack of plot or characters or ideas get in the way of things. But on the other hand, I just started my first semester of grad school and free time is not exactly in abundance.
We'll see how I'm doing in three weeks, but I'd say the odds are against it. Bleh.

Do it, Drew. DO IT. I was going to add this year's participant icon to my sig, but...I don't want to. This year's model is much larger - and uglier - than last year's.

Like Drew, I said last year I'd do it this year, but - why do they have it in November!?! With four essays, an essay proposal and two midterms, I can't fit it in and retain my already slender shred of sanity.

I'll echo that November is a horrible choice of months- grad school, college, and high school are all right in the middle of sessions. Bummer that August wasn't an option.

Or lunacy!
OogieBoogie and Sue, what are your usernames? I'm adding buddies on the site. I'm organic_cookie. (I am blissfully uncreative at usernames, as this one is my Livejournal name AND my username for other various odds and ends...)
