Hi, my name is Al...
(Hi, Al.)
...and I've never seen The Deer Hunter.
Or Gone With the Wind. Or Casablanca. Or 2001: A Space Odyssey. I... I meant to. I know they're good movies and I'm sure I would like them. It's just that there's only so many hours in the day and I never quite got around to it.
I know, I know, I'm a movie reviewer and I should have these things memorized, analyzed, and resting comfortably on my DVD rack. It just never happened. But I will! Yes! I firmly intend, with your help, that I'll one day see these movies and turn my life around! Starting tomorrow, in fact!
No, wait, I'm busy tomorrow... Thursday! ... No, not Thursday, either. And I'm going away this weekend. Next week? Hmm...
Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest. Anyone else feel like laying themselves bare and throwing the gaps in their cinematic education into the court of public opinion?

I hate 2001: A Space Odessey. I prefer some of the newer National Lampoon over some of the older.

I've seen 2001, but otherwise you get a big "me too" on the others in your list, Al.
Also, I've never seen any of the Godfather movies, or The Wizard of Oz (in one go, that is).

Ditto to Deer Hunter, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, and the Godfather (2 and 3, to be exact). Also, Annie Hall, Spartacus, and It's a Wonderful Life.
Meanwhile, I have seen stuff like the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the Great Train Robbery, Birth of a Nation, and Metropolis. Talk about an uneven movie education...

LOL...at least you don't own them. I've bought Casablanca, Raging Bull, The Great Escape, On the Waterfront, Citizen Kane, and Schindler's List over the years.
Haven't watched a single one of them yet. And sadly, The Deer Hunter is also one I've been meaning to purchase, which would probably wind up in the same list.

I've never seen Dr. Strangelove, or Breathless, or The Deer Hunter, or Raging Bull, or Godfather Part II, or Duck Soup, or Rebel Without a Cause. Most of the agreed-upon classics I meant to see for ages but only got around to watching them in class, like On the Waterfront and Annie Hall.

I used to be a lot like that, but over time I've seen most of the extremely acclaimed movies, except I still haven't seen Deer Hunter or Godfather, Part 2. I've actually never been disappointed in any of the "classics", they've all lived up to the hype.
Oh wait, I HATED Mr Smith Goes to Washington, but that's probably because I qualify as a "youngin' ".

I'm VERY bad. So bad that if you just name a movie I more than likely haven't seen it. Doesn't make sense, but I'm a movie geek that really hasn't seen a lot of movies. At least not the "classics".

I look at it not as "These are movies I haven't seen." but as "These are movies I haven't seen yet." It changes your outlook.
BTW I've seen almost (almost) all the movies listed so far. Nanner.

Sorry to add to your sorrow, but you have made your situation even worse in this thread. You see, the movies you listed here -- at least you are aware of their importance and your according ignorance.
But what about the Great Movies you have not yet seen and have forgotten to list here? Hmm? Is that not the height of ignorance?

Too true. But if I start thinking too hard about it (Fargo. The Sound of Music. Beauty and the Beast. Lawrence of Arabia.) you'll find me collapsed in the gutter mumbling the words to "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me."

Hmmm. This is a wierd thread for me because, well if I want to see it I usually find a way. . .
I guess. . . I have never seen National Lampoon's European Vacation all the way through. . . and I know I watched Barton Fink at one point but I cannot remember anything about it at all.
Also I hate A Clockwork Orange with every fiber of my heart. And the Spider-Man movies. And the everything I've ever seen from Peter Jackson. But that's probably a bit for a different thread at a different time.
