My memory (or lack thereof) amazes me sometimes. I've seen all four of those movies, but I only really remember the freaky bits of Sleeping Beauty and Nimh that were mentioned in the article. The Mouse of Minsk and the whole Hell motif in All Dogs totally slipped my mind. That said, I do remember catching the end of All Dogs on TV a couple months ago and being totally confused by the devil-type-person visiting Charlie and the little girl. Thanks for clarifying! According to Wikipedia, the Don was an assistant animator on Sleeping Beauty. So, technically, he's responsible for 100% of what went wrong in your childhood. I don't like Don Bluth, either. Rock-a-Doodle, my foot.

the whole Hell motif in All Dogs totally slipped my mind. Probably self-preservation on your mind's part. That scene in All Dogs is what prompted me to write this article. I was watching this movie at work (kinda sorta part of my job) and I thought "You know, that scared the crap out of me as a kid. Then I remembered all these other movies and thought it would be a good subject for animation week. Haha. I really shouldn't have assumed that he would be too young to have worked on Sleeping Beauty. Um, no thanks? Seriously I remember Rock-A-Doodle. I wasn't crazy about that one either. EDIT: Can anyone explain what's going on with your quote there, Oogie? The time is wrong, the date is wrong, the AUTHOR is wrong....all wrong!

Oops...I took the quote code from another thread, and forgot to take out all the detail info. Fixed it!

Oh good. Glad to know I'm not crazy. I had a momentary freak-out when I was typing my response and I saw 'darthshady' in there. I was wondering if somehow I was logged in under her name or something (which would make sense, since we Mutants are all one person anyway ). I was thinking "Oh crap how did I get logged in as Courtney? Is she going to think I hacked her account? AAAH! Thanks for the heart attack, Oogie.

Thanks for the heart attack, Oogie. Well, this is the Nightmare Fuel thread. I suddenly want there to be more Don Bluth reviews on the site...

It could be a hint if you want it to be...wink-wink, nudge-nudge, say-no-more.

Nice one, Heather! Yeah, I remember being freaked out by All Dogs as a kid too. On the plus side, it helped us build up some healthy psychological scars. Kids today are going to be such weenies. And you're totally right about Maleficent. Hey, there's a reason she's one of the last bosses in Kingdom Hearts. (But speaking of which, you left out the "Night on Bald Mountain" segment of Fantasia. Man, THAT was scary.) -D

(But speaking of which, you left out the "Night on Bald Mountain" segment of Fantasia. Man, THAT was scary.) -D AH! Funny you should say that. You know, I thought about that one. I REALLY did. And I almost put it down. I can't remember now why I decided to leave it out. Don Bluth probably worked on that one, too.

Great, now I'm going to have nightmares for the next week & a half.
I did really love this article! When I started readig it, the first 3 movies that popped into my head were The Secret of NIMH, All Dogs Go To Heaven, & actually the Last Unicorn (I don't want the pretty horsies to die!) But the scene where Sleeping Beauty gets possessed & finds the spinning wheel used to terrify the living crap outta me!

Great article!
I haven't seen All Dogs, but I remember the Mouse of Minsk all too well....
I'm guessing you weren't one of those children who was scarred for life by Watership Down, or that would probably be on there as well. You can tell who we are just by looking at us - we have a haggard, tramatized look in our eyes...

I don't know, Pooly. I just had a reader e-mail me and tell me about Watership Down. I checked out a rather disturbing montage of all the bloody scenes. I think I need to have the images scoured from my brain by a professional. brrrrr
*now off to check out the Last Unicorn. Masochism is fun!*
EDIT: And now I see sandrine's post. No, I had actually never heard of Watership Down before this morning. Luckily (or unluckily?)my mother stuck to almost purely Disney fare. I can't figure it out...was that movie intended for children? I mean, really. You guys should start up a support group. I feel for you.
I think I could totally do a part two article on all the new movie suggestions I've been getting. (And for Drew, I would put the Night On Bald Mountain sequence in there, though I've already seen it.)
