My aunt died today, after a long battle with her illness (about a year) and a month of intense suffering. It's good in a way, because she isn't suffering anymore, but it's hard on me and the rest of my family. I lost another aunt three years ago so it's really tough for everyone to deal with, especially my grandmother. Please pray for my family.

That's a tough time in any family, and it's truly shocking how easily it could happen to anyone. Best wishes for you and the family.

At my aunt's funeral, my 96-year old grandmother fell and broke her leg coming out of the funeral home.

Oh dear... that's awful. Is she the fightin' type?

Well usually she is. She's one of those old, country women that's worked hard all her life. She still works in her garden every year (much to the chagrin of most of her children. I think it's great). In fact, the first comment she made after getting in the hospital was "Well I can't get any work done in here!" I've been blessed with a really healthy, spry grandma who's almost a century old but has all her wits about her. But she's seen two of her children and one grandchild die and day after day her body feels worse, so she told the doctor she didn't want life support if she has trouble during her surgery, which happened this morning. She's a fighter but this time she's ready to go and I can't say I blame her. I'm about to call and see if I can find out how it went. I admit I'm pretty scared. Just not ready to lose her yet. I'm even more upset that if she goes, I won't be there.
EDIT: Apparently, though they were supposed to perform surgery this morning, the hospital hadn't run tests on her heart and lungs yet. So as of 12 pm Eastern Time they were saying it would be another hour or so before they got started. Surgery is supposed to take a couple of hours. So I may not know anything until tonight. I forgot to mention that she has some clogged carotid arteries, some congestive heart failure, and just an all around case of "friggin' old", so things are a bit precarious.

Your gran sounds awesome! I wish I had a "battle axe" for a grandma She's the most awesome of awesome. I want her around forever. Yup, basically she's not allowed to die until after I do. Thanks. There's a lot of stuff going on to make things rough right now but I've got great family and great friends, including you guys. I feel blessed to have found a nice group of people like this on the internet of all places. It's just not common.

We're an interesting bunch, that's for sure.
Wow, good luck to her and your family. It's great to start with a "battle axe" attitude, that goes a very long way. Hope all continues to go well.

No candy, no junk food, no hott guys (I use 2 t's to distinguish hot objects from hot people). No posters, no rock music, no pop music, no music. No talking, no socializing, no having fun.
And no milk just after you eat a brownie!

I'm sure they can. At least, that's what I gather everytime I hear the Republicans I know talk about how great the inmates have it in prison.
Though I assure you, I am not one of them (inmates). So I wouldn't know.

I think what they mean is they make great profits from having inmates in prison. No, I didn't think you were! I was hoping your post was a bit of a hyperbole and you would think, "Ha! It's not quite as bad as in prison!" and thusly be slightly cheered up. Sorry that backfired! I've been crossing my fingers you'll find some fun. At times, I feel pretty much like you described it. Oftentimes, cynicism helps me by resetting my mood.
