I'm appalled. What a terrible, terrible trailer. Just out of curiosity, what's terrible about it? Granted, it could be a lot better, but terrible? Just fishing for opinions here.

And I plan to pull on my gear one more time and head to the theater next May...I've worked every ST premiere since IV, so I'm not going to miss this one! Your... gear? Should I ask? Are there fake ears involved?

Your... gear? Should I ask? Are there fake ears involved? LOL, not quite...I could never get the darn things to stay on...but I wore the classic blue tunic as a kid, then graduated to the Scotty STIV vest uniform...which reminds me, I need to check and see if either of those still fit...I've dropped a lot of weight since Nemesis, LOL. I'm a part of an international Trek group, so I've worked premieres in costume since the late '80s.

The only people around here excited about this awesome looking movie are people in my college that play WoW.
Your friends can play WoW and if they play WoW they're no friends of mine.
Bottom line is, people here suck. This movie will make up for it. Course I'm not going to socialize at the theater when I see it because people are disgusting things.

<scotsaccent>I like this trailer, it's exciting!</scotsaccent>
I'm not sold on Pine either, but I do know that this stands to be the best new Trek movie in years. I'll take it.

Lady Starblade, like I said, that was just my unfiltered gut reaction. I can't say for sure, but I think it's this: Star Trek is a category of its own. The trailer made me fear that they lost that, that the movie may look like any other recent action/SF movie. That would be terrible. Also, the 'splosions (to quote another forumite) make up half of the trailer... but you can't avoid that in trailers, I know. That's why I don't watch trailers. They are spoilers and skew expectations. In fact, I meant to ignore ST XI altogether until release. I thought I was out, but you pulled me back in. We'll see. I'm crossing my fingers the movie will change my mind. Oh, and, did you hear Jim? "Buckle up!" Did they finally read my letters and *gasp* INSTALL SEAT BELTS? Then I love the new bridge!

Also, the 'splosions (to quote another forumite) make up half of the trailer Is... is it me? Have I arrived so well as to have inspired a new meme? Probably not, but don't take it away from me. My ego needs this. I'm actually up in the air about this movie. I'm not a huge Trekkie to begin with, and even then I was always a TNG guy anyway. But I enjoyed the (good) movies with the original cast, and I kind of like the idea of rebooting the franchise. Not sure I buy all the new casting (Kirk is the biggest concern since he's... you know, Kirk), but it could certainly work out. And I do think that, while good looking, the editing of this trailer didn't give us anything to look at for long enough to form an opinion about it. Seemed like they included something from every action set piece while giving us approximately two frames per character that wasn't Kirk or Spock. On the other hand, I think it's a sign that this movie is going to go for more of an action-adventure style than the old series or movies ever did, and they want people to know it. In the end, if the movie is fun and good humored, isn't that all we should want? Regardless, I think I'll have to see this movie for Simon Pegg and his Scottish accent alone. Hopefully he gets more screen time than he did in the trailer.

Is... is it me? Have I arrived so well as to have inspired a new meme? Probably not, but don't take it away from me. My ego needs this. What say you, one star? Oh yes, we incumbents (*sitsupstraight&pusheschestout*) tolerate you, for now. Justin, great analysis you linked there; that inspired a question. Hope y'all don't mind a little meta discussion. My approach to sth. I think I may enjoy is: minimize prior exposure. I guess the idea behind this is that, by default, I trust the artistic concept and want to experience it as intended -- i.e. as a blank slate, beginning with the start of the first reel, not with marketing plugs and leaks a year earlier. When I look at this frame-by-frame analysis... It seems like intelligence gathering. Like willfully maximizing spoilers. (Though that would explain why I sometimes think "clever plot" and others write "I was one step ahead of it all the time!" ) Why do fans do that? Is it simply the addiction or is there a more fundamental reason? Like: " I know how it should be, that's what counts. Now let's see what the guy who was lucky enough they let him direct made of it."? Surely there is no right or wrong, but do you have insight into the fandom mindset? Throw in a role for Kelly Macdonald, and I agree! (Seriously, any chance? Maybe ST XII?) P.S.: On another board where I write, the last weeks have been chaotic and ugly. I feel the need to say this is really a great little corner in teh intertubes here!
