The premise: Several months ago I moved in with my fiancée, Lady Luck, at which point we took the even bigger step of merging our respective movie collections. I say merged, but really it was more of a hostile takeover- my section comprises comfortably 90-95% of our total collection. However, that still leaves a few movies that she brought to the table, and it’s those that concern us today. Here’s what I’ll tell you:
-She owns nine (9) films on DVD
-She owns two (2) “Best of...” Saturday Night Live DVDs
-She owns five (5) films on VHS
-She owns three (3) different shows in season sets; for some or all of these, she may own more than one season
And from this meager information, I’m asking you folks to take part in a little guessing game to determine just what those films and TV shows may be. But what’s your incentive?
The prize: The Grand Prize winner of this little contest gets to make me review one (1) movie of their choosing. That’s right, like He-Man, you’ll have the power- make me sigh with relief or weep in horror, my fate is in your hands. The only stipulations are that the movie must be:
-One I can lay my hands on with relative ease through a video rental place, OR one you’re willing to mail me a copy of;
AND
-Suitable for review on a family-friendly site. You’re of course welcome to send a copy of Debbie Does Dallas, or your own amateur efforts for that matter, but I’ll only be forced to watch it three or four times and then send it back.
In addition… proving she has at least some taste, when Lady Luck and I merged collections, there were a couple of overlaps. The Grand Prize winner will have his/her choice of one (1) of these DVDs, in used but still perfectly watchable condition.
-The Second Place contestant will receive the other overlapping DVD, also in used but watchable condition.
-As Lady Luck happens to possess one movie on both DVD and VHS, Third Place will receive a VHS copy of this movie.
-Fourth Place will get nothing and like it.
The eligibility: The contest is open to all registered posters. You heard right- anyone who’s registered and posts can play, so all you lurkers who just can’t commit to that final step, amend thy evil ways and join in. And yes, Mutants may participate as well, though as the only posters who’ve set foot in the place (albeit briefly), I’m swearing Lissa and Duckie to honor pledges that they didn’t spend any time looking things over.
The rules: Every poster will be allowed to vote once per day. You may guess only one movie or TV show at a time, and I’ll periodically be doling out clues as my fickle whims dictate. (Hint: I’ve already given you a couple.) Correctly guessing a movie or TV show is worth 1 point apiece; guessing exactly which season(s) she owns of a TV show is worth an additional 2 bonus points, but may only be won by the person who correctly identified the show in the first place. In addition, guessing the actors spotlighted on the SNL DVDs is worth 2 points apiece. As we go along, I’ll be updating this thread to spotlight the current standings, that you may better focus your mental hatred on the current frontrunner.
Finally, I should make clear that some of these were gifts, rather than something she purchased on her own. So if you come across one that you just can’t believe someone would actually own… yeah, that was probably a gift.
All clear? Good. As we begin, I’d just like to say that I’m proud of each and every one of you, and that you’re all winners in my book; but in a far more realistic and accurate sense, only one of you actually will be. So make it you!
