Uh Steven King underrated? Do you mean a different Steven King, or the same one I know is currently the best selling single author of all time?

One in the same. If you talk to enough book people, you find out how much he is disliked by a good portion of the literary community. He recently won a big literature award and threw a lot of rather pretentious folks into an uproar because they consider what he writes to be "low" literature. A lot of my colleagues and professors at school thought that way, and you'd be surprised how many different people are shocked that The Stand would be "the best I could come up with" for my pick of the month at the store. Too many people hear "Stephen King" and equate it with nothing more that "haunted car." It's sad.

Yes well I'm not a huge fan of him myself, but he does have a wild imagination. I have yet to see a decent translation of his mind to film though. Cujo comes close, but I think while the dog and the situation itself was filled with Dread (an emotion explained more fully and in a better way by my favorite author, *PLUG!* Orson Scott Card www.hatrack.com ), the direction in the film was horrendous. It was tedious and slow, and not nearly atmospheric enough for my tastes.

Wow, I've been mocked for the first time on the board too. Eh, not mocked, just teased with love. It's something that PoolMan claims to do the 5,000,000 times he slanders me, my family, and everything I hold dear. Excuse me... *runs off to the secret room I have to cry*

1 - Hijack a thread 2 - Survive a ribbing by Poolman 3 - Debate mithril
If you start number 3 here you'll do number 1 as well and probably incur number 2. So get crackin'!

I've noticed we've had quite a few new posters around these parts. So I decided to open a thread for introductions. So, tell us something about yourselves. Movie interests. Job. Blood type. I'm Robin, I love flamingos and I don't know why, and I teach high school English/Yearbook/Newspaper/Drama/Speech at a Lutheran School. I live in Frozen Michigan. I'm 47 and an obsessive movie buff that actually went thru the AFI 100 lists and found and watched the ones I had never seen. I also love TV even though I teach English and ostensibly should hate it. The things I love on TV are: Friends Clean Sweep Trading Spaces Whose Line reruns M*A*S*H reruns American Idol Iron Chef ER Two and a Half Men King of Queens My degree is actually in musical theatre, so my tastes are extremely eclectic. I'm also furmom to two katz and a puppy, and wife to Mike. As for blood type, what else would a teacher have? A+!

Wow, gone a little over 12 hours and there are 3 pages of posts.
Since I opened the thread I guess I should give a little bit of real information.
My name is Ashley, I'm 26 (and a 1/2! hee). I live in Austin, TX one of the best cities in the country. I have a soul sucking job at an insurance company that I hate. I just bought my first house back in May, and I live there with my two cats, my two rats, my girlfriend, her cat, and her 10 fish. She really wants a dog, but at this point I've put my foot down and told my girlfriend that I dog will just have to wait.... until the summer. hahaha.
I'm really into Sci-fi and fantasy. My favorite TV show ever is Farscape. My friends try not to even mention TV around me for fear that I might go off for hours on how awesome Farscape is and how all Sci-Fi Channel execs. should burn for all eternity for canceling that show.
Right now, my new TV interest is Joan of Arcadia (as many know from the TV forum). As for movies, there isn't coming up soon I'm really into. I'll definitely go see the second part of Kill Bill, but I would say I'm excited about it.

Hello kids! I'm DaJayMan. Actually, the name is Jayson, though many refer to me as "Jay" or "J P" or "that damned punk at the Nextel who wouldn't fix my phone". I'm 24, been married 2 1/2 years now, and have a 3 month old daughter who, due to her sheer adorableness, is fated to rule the world. Her name's Leilani. As mentioned above, I work at a Nextel store and it sucks. The only two things that keep me here are 1. the schedule is pretty good (no nights or weekends) and 2. I know if I ever quit this store would rot and crumble away like when the Skeses die in The Dark Crystal. And this makes me feel special.
As far as entertainment goes, I'm easily amused so I'm good for just about anything. I like cheap rentals and matinee's at the theater and cheap pc games from Wal-Mart (currently on Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds). I'm into Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Drama, Comedy, hell just about anything. Recent favorites are Lord of the Rings (surprise!), Bend it Like Beckham, and XMen 2. Classic favorites are the Star Wars trilogy, Monty Python and the holy grail, and Office Space (at least, that one's certainly a classic in my eyes). And that's just a taste!
I graduated FSU with a Bachelor's in Art History (hence my current job as a cell phone salesman), and I consider myself god's gift to guitar playing since 1995. Music is what I'm really into, mostly classic rock stuff like Eric Clapton (my personal deity), the Stones, the Who, Hendrix, blah blah blah. More recently, it's Beck, A Perfect Circle, Radiohead, and artsy-fartsy (though commercially appealing) stuff like that.
The avatar on the left is Ryu, who was available in the drop-down default list for avatars and I ain't got around to change it. The sig at the bottom is Vega, who is slightly effeminate. That may be changed soon also.
Embarrassing fact about myself: I am a closet Creed fan. And it pains me to admit it.

If you start number 3 here you'll do number 1 as well and probably incur number 2. So get crackin'! That sounds so dirty! Hello everybody. For the uninitiated, my name is Sean, I'm 27, and I live in Vancouver, Canada. I am the resident Mutant Canadian, and MRFH vice-honkey with Justin. If the postcount and cynical jabs just in this thread haven't clued you in, I am waaaay too into this Forum. I love it in here. Justin, Rich, and I have worked to make it a friendly place where anybody can come play, and also occasionally mock with gentle humour. Except Justin. Tear him apart as you see fit. I'm into kickboxing, currently ranked at a low black belt in SKF North American style. However, my training's been on the wane lately in favour of my budding little acting stint in a local British theater. I play video games and read when I can scrape together time, and any other time gets funneled into the MRFH. I cannot knit. I am currently betrothed to a lovely gal (a work buddy of mine saw her picture for the first time yesterday, and said "Good god, you won the freaking lottery! Way to show even us geeks can do it too!") and will be married away this coming July. Home purchases and children will surely follow, which I mention mostly to send Justin into shock. I work in the wonderful world of industrial automation, in a manufacturer sales office as a network technical specialist. I'm STILL trying to figure out what that all means myself. How are you?

I'm lazy and just had way too big of a lunch, so I'll join in I'm Lissa, and I'm 29- for real. I'm in my first job- a post-doc at a secret government agency. I'm currently working trying to reduce NO x emissions from biodiesel. I have my degree in Fuel Science from Penn State. I used to knit, but I haven't figured out how to knit anything besides scarves so I gave that up for cross-stitch. I used to run, am a black belt in tae kwon do, work with a junior high youth group, just started the Coldlfire series and finished reading the Princess Diaries, am married (to Duckie there), am an avid lover of Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake ice cream, do artwork, am working on a novel with another member of the forum (I'll leave it to her to expose herself if she so chooses), avoid reality TV like the plague (although AI sucked me in... eek!), and cook a REALLY good turkey. And brownies. Sorry. I'm just really proud because I roasted my first turkey (2 turkeys, actually) this holiday season. Hey, it's an accomplishment. Been married for 1.25 years (almost to the day), no kids for a while, but the house is almost done! Whoohoo! Lissa

I suppose it is my turn to intro myself.
I am DeusDragonEx. My name stems from DeusExMachina. I had this name a year and a half before the stupid DeusExMachina game ever surfaced, so NO I did not steal my name from it. I'm not that shallow, thanks. My real name is Carl, for those who wanted to know. I came across this forum...well, a multitude of ways. I found MRFH on mrqe.com about two years ago and I have been reading reviews here ever since. So naturally, after finding neoseeker.com about a month before MRFH, I wanted to join into the forum here. I tried, but for some reason it didn't work, so I put it off....
...until I got in contact with Rich over email and he dropped a small hint for me to join the forums. Curious, and rather bored, I did. And....I was about to say something else, but I lost my train of thought.
My avatar is Carlos Oliveira from Resident Evil 3, the greatest game in the world, and anyone who says differently is lying and is going to go to hell for blasphemy.
I'm 19 and in college with a Creative Writing major, which means I'll be poor and out of work for the rest of my life, but I can deal with that.
My desert island, all-time, top five movies, in no particular order, are as follows: Dogma High Fidelity Whale Rider Bend It Like Beckham The Princess Bride
I work at my local (well, not so local) video store. So I get three free rentals at a time. It's pretty cool. So for the past four months I have been living in the world of film.
I don't watch TV.
What about a conversation about mithril now?

Oooo Carl, I like 4 of your 5 movies, and the 5th I don't know only because I haven't seen it yet. Good taste! Bend It Like Beckham's one of my all time favorites.

Kiss me if I'm wrong, but Whale Rider is the one you haven't seen, right?
And thanks for noting my impeccable taste ;D
